Slice of Life Comedy presents a comedy showcase featuring comedian Blayr Nias tomorrow night at the PULP.   Doors open at 8:30 p.m., show starts at 9:00 p.m. Tickets are $5, which includes a year membership to the Pulp.   About Nias: Blayr Nias lives by the creedo “If you can’t be a good example, then you’ll have to be a horrible warning.”  She hits the stage with ferocity and high octane humor sharing tales of her misadventures as a post-modern, wisecracking,  bad girl next door.  This Massachusetts native graduated from the George Washington University with a degree in Theater and Creative Writing.  She was featured in the Pink Collar Comedy tour at the Piccolo Spoletto festival and she has opened for Natasha Leggero, Ralphie May, Broken Lizzard (Steve Lemme and Kevin Heffernan) Josh Wolf, Chris Kattan, Neal Brennan, Jon Reep, and DL Hughley.  She currently writes and performs comedy in Charlotte, NC.   Here is a clip of Nias performing:     Joining Nias on stage will be comedians Kelly Row, Art Sturtevant, Fay Canale, Jaysun Webb, Macon Clark, John Michael Bond, Hillary Begley, Mimi J. Benfield, Ryan Van Genderen, Dave Bradford and the evening’s festivities will be hosted by Petey Smith McDowell.   The Slice girls will hold a raffle along with the event with all proceeds going to local band Red Honey. Laugh Your Asheville Off comedy festival announces headliner, comic submissions now open

The headlining comedian at the 7th annual Laugh Your Asheville Off comedy festival will be Rory Scovel. Scovel will be taking the stage on Wednesday, August 14th at The Altamont Theater.   Comedians Marc Maron and Bill Burr are still my favorite comics, but Rory is quickly becoming one of my all time favorite comedians.   Scovel’s shows are always a hit in Asheville and Hollywood tends to agree with Asheville audiences as Scovel just landed two television deals. ABC is developing a family comedy around Scovel and TBS cast Rory for their new comedy pilot Ground Floor.   Here is one of my favorite clips of Scovel performing at the Moontower Comedy Festival in Austin, Texas:     If the Scovel announcement is a sign for things to come for Laugh Your Asheville Off comedy festival, which is held August 13-August 17, this year’s comedy festival should be off the charts.   Think you have what it takes to perform at Laugh Your Asheville Off? The comedy festival is accepting comedian submissions here.   For more Asheville stand up comedy check out our Asheville Comedy...

LOL Comedy Show starring Shawty at Club Tetrus tomorrow night

Club Tetrus presents the LOL Comedy Show tomorrow night starring comedian Shawty.   The show starts at 9:00 p.m. and tickets are $15.   About Shawty: The original pioneer of crunk comedy, SHAWTY (what my name is?) is like no other comedian you will ever witness. He is one of a kind and an unforgetable performer. Shawty has not only mastered the art of stand-up comedy, he has excelled in both film and televison acting. He has improv skills like no other as his quick witted jokes fly throught the air.   Look for Shawty Shawty on one of your favorite networks this season as the crowd roars his name at the Apollo Theater on “SHOWTIME at the APOLLO” or on the last season of BET’s “COMIC VIEW”. He has also been a headliner on the Super comedy Jam tour, which is the longest running comedy tour through out the southeast region. Shawty also appeared on season 4 of Wild n Out onFabolous’s Episode.  Shawty is not a stranger to the music industry. His cameo appearance on Ludacris’s album, Word of Mouf, has earned him platinum success. He has been showcased in numerous rap music videos with the CLIPSE “NEVER HEARD IT LIKE THIS”, produced by the Neptunes, which showcases the immense talent of this animated comedian, Atlanta Rapper BONECRUSHER’s #1 Billboard chart topping single “NEVA SCARED”, LIL’ JON & THE EASTSIDE BOYZ “GET LOW” & “I DON’T GIVE A…”, and FIELD MOB’S “ALL I KNOW”.   Here is a video of Shawty performing:     Joining Shawty on stage will be comedians T Mo and special guest Big Dreek.   For more Asheville stand up comedy check out our Asheville Comedy Calendar!...
