King’s Chinese Kitchen

If Asheville Chinese restaurants were to face off in a good ole Western duel, King’s Chinese Kitchen would have the fastest draw in the land.   Every time I put in a to go order, I get the same response “10 minutes’. Doesn’t matter the order or quantity of food “10 minutes” and the only reason it takes 10 minutes is because they take a Samurai sword to a tree to make the take out brown bags.   The food is not only fast but fresh, good, and cheap. I ordered the Kung Pao Shrimp last night (shrimp, fried rice, snap peas, bell peppers, carrots, onions, mushrooms, and peanuts) for $6.95, which includes a spring roll. This dish will also be my lunch this afternoon!...

Citizen Thymes catches Chick-fil-A working on a Sunday

After a delicious Sunday brunch at Tupelo Honey South the Citizen Thymes spotted the unthinkable at Chick-fil-A on Hendersonville Road, people working.       Apparently the day of rest is only for individuals working on the inside, not the outside. Its kind of like tax cuts being for only people in certain tax brackets.   Chick-fil-A has always taken its religious background seriously. In fact company president Dan Cathy says the company was founded on biblical principles.   But the Citizen Thymes has no problem with a company or person expressing their religious freedom, except when such expression trounces on or harms other people’s rights. According to Equality Matters: The company has strong, deep ties to anti-gay organizations like Focus on the Family and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and its charitable division has provided more than $1.1 million to organizations that deliver anti-LGBT messages and promote egregious practices like reparative therapy that seek to “free” people of being gay. Which is why every time my girlfriend eats at Chick-fil-A I tell her she just took a bite out of a gay person’s soul. But sometimes even people that our of the LGBT community can’t help but eat at Chick-fil-A, which the following video satirizes:     Nonetheless no matter where you stand on certain issues it’s good to know in true Portlandia fashion, not only what farm your chicken comes from, but what the owner of the establishment cooking the chicken believes in and supports with money from your purchase of such chicken.   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l2LBICPEK6w  ...

Mosaic Cafe Asheville

Mosaic Cafe Asheville

Biltmore Park Town Square receives a lot of flack from locals. One thing I don’t quite understand is the Biltmore name, when it is nowhere near Biltmore.   But one great, somewhat new addition to the park has been Mosaic Cafe. Mosaic serves great moderately priced breakfast and some of the freshest sandwiches for lunch in Asheville. Every time I eat at Mosaic I feel like I have put something healthy into my stomach.   Yesterday for lunch I had the Roast Beef panini (rare roast beef, provolone, red pepper, Boar’s Head horseradish, tomato, on grilled  sourdough) with house made pasta salad.     Overall a pretty hearty and solid sandwich. Although I prefer Mosaic’s Southwest Chicken...

Sogo Fusion Asheville

Sogo Fusion Asheville

Green Tea Fusion at 1840 Hendersonville Road recently changed owners and the new restaurant is Sogo Fusion. The menu seems to be similar but has several more sushi options.   Sogo Fusion has pretty good lunch deals such as any two rolls for $7.50 or any three rolls for $9.50. I dined at Sogo Fusion this past Tuesday for lunch. I had the Shrimp Tempura roll and the Spicy Yellow Tail roll. The Shrimp Tempura roll was particularly tasty, fresh and tasted like shrimp. I say that because I’m always skeptical about sushi after watching the following video:     http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gr-qewC-4gY&lr=1   If your in South Asheville and in the mood for sushi, Sogo Fusion is a good place to...
