My girlfriend tried to score me reservations at the Admiral for my birthday this past Saturday, but alas they were booked. So we are going for our first time to the Admiral this coming Tuesday and in the words of New York Jets linebacker Bart Scott “Can’t Wait!.”
But a failed attempt at a birthday dinner surprise lead to another surprise and one of our top 5 dinner experiences ever in Asheville at The Market Place. Saturday was our first time at The Market Place and we will definitely be back.
Our waitress was very knowledgeable of the menu. When I couldn’t decide between the wood grilled leg of lamb and the wood grilled coulotte steak, she went into a lengthy discussion on how each dish was prepared.
I wound up ordering the wood grilled leg of lamb served with a goat cheese tart, tomato jam, cippolini onions, arugula, olive vinaigrette.
The wood grilled leg of lamb was phenomenal. The lamb is served boneless and this dish has a variety of flavors working together that makes it kick ass. You get the salt of the mashed kalamata olives, the sweetness of the tomato jam, the creaminess of the goat cheese, the acidity of the cheery tomatoes, and the melt in your mouth flaky pastry. Oh yeah….(Insert Food Porn Music here)
The meal was capped with a complimentary lavender creme brulee for a delicious birthday desert.
